How do you know when it’s time to quit camming?

camgirl

We’ve all had our bad days on cam (and weeks, and even months), but how do you know when to throw in the towel? When things are not going well on cam money-wise, do you try harder or do you quit?

I think that you have two options when things are not going well and you become disheartened, frustrated, and upset.

Option 1: Change Something!

You either try CHANGE UP your approach to camming, sign up to another cam site, or subscription site, or do another major change such as those.

The fact is, if you’ve been doing the same thing and it hasn’t been working, it’s unlikely it will. (Unless you get lucky, and a high tipper notices you and showers you in tokens). You have to look at what you’ve been doing on cam and see if there are areas that are majorly lacking. A simple fix may be in order, such as updating your equipment (webcam, laptop, lights – more important to looking good on cam than you’d think!), as well as your cam room. If you’ve got all the right tools, but still can’t seem to make money on cam, it might be that the site you’re on is not suited best for your needs. If you’re shy and prefer to be a non-mode cammodel (a “tease” model), then a site like Chaturbate might not work for you, because there is an emphasis on pretty sexual private and public shows.

You might benefit from a site like Myfreecams OR a subscription site like OnlyFans where you’re not required to be overly sexual. In fact, many camgirls have moved to OnlyFans, AVN Stars, etc, because of the flexibility these sites offer, and the fact that you don’t need to come up with complicated show ideas and spend hours of your time on cam. It’s worth trying them out if you feel burnt out on cam and are not getting enough interaction from tippers. A lot of girls make on OF much more money than the ever did as camgirls!

However, if you actually enjoy the live interaction of camming, it might be that you need to look into other cam sites. See my list of best ones here. Try to assess what may be going on with your approach to camming. Maybe you’re not being quite yourself and the viewers are picking up on that, or maybe you need to create a character or persona that you will be on cam, and that is what will make it fun for you.

Viewers can see when you’re genuinely enjoying yourself and when you’re not, and that you’re just going through the motions. If you’re unhappy, feeling negative, or frustrated, you might lash out at people and drive them away even more. Members tend to come to cam sites for entertainment and lightheartedness, a place to get away from their problems and the daily grind. If it seems like you cannot do it, and being on cam is a drag leaving you more and more dissatisfied and frustrated, maybe it’s time to look into Option 2.

Option 2: Quit Camming

So, you tried your hand at camming and you’ve tried OnlyFans or a similar fanclub platform, and things have not gone well. You are not alone. Most camgirls will quit within the first month of camming, so if you’ve stuck it out for more than a month – good job! You gave it a fair try, and it may be that adult industry is not for you, and that you prefer to interact person-to-person, or want to use one of your other skills and talents. Remember, even if you “make it” as a camgirl, the career in the adult industry is quite short-lived, so you’ll either need to save most of your earnings, or look for a way to branch out and leave for another opportunity. (See my post on it here).

There is no shame in quitting, and it’s better to quit than to continue sticking it out and hurting yourself in the process. You might start feeling isolated and depressed and use drugs/alcohol to deal with the painful experiences on cam. Don’t exploit yourself just so you can get some “easy money”, because this money is definitely not easy and can really crush your self-esteem and self-confidence. It’s better to find a lower-paying, but a stable “vanilla” job that you can count on, versus a high risk-high reward one that might never pan out.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you’re not hurting yourself in the process and that you’re being as true to yourself as possible. Good luck!

Making Money (and Keeping Sane) While Self-Isolating

camming work from home

Making Money in the Time of Coronavirus

These are pretty uncertain times and it can be a struggle for camgirls, and the world at large, to keep the motivation going. It’s easy to slip into depression and bouts of anxiety and panic with everything that’s going on with this coronavirus pandemic, but keeping a daily schedule and keeping yourself busy with work is a great solution to the problem we’re all facing.

Luckily, the adult industry does not seem to be affected as much as other industries, and some might say it is even *thriving* despite the global pandemic. There are more people at home and self-isolating, and so they are looking for social contact and entertainment/enjoyment from cam sites and subscription platforms, like OnlyFans. Quarantine or not, there will always be a demand for porn and other adult services, so working as a webcam model in these times is actually quite advantageous.

Where to Start

So, you need to make money at home and you don’t know where to start? Here is a list of the best resources for making money while in quarantine:

  1. Best Camsites to Start on (click to read more!): My recommendation would be to start with the industry’s “Gold standard” – Chaturbate – and then try out other sites to see how they compare. Check out my Beginners Guide for Webcam Models.
  2. Adult-Friendly Snapchat Alternatives (click to read more!): OnlyFans is killing the game right now! Girls are making thousands of dollars a month from posting photos, vids, and DMing their followers. Check out my posts on How to Get Started on OnlyFans and How to Keep Increasing your Income!
  3. Passive Income Sources for Camgirls (click to read more!) – Sometimes you just want to take a break and not stream at all. When you’ve got passive income sources set up, you can make money while you sleep. I recommend checking out camming affiliate programs, as the earnings definitely add up over time! One of the best programs in the industry is the Chaturbate Affiliate Program (you don’t eve need to be a model to sign up and make $$$)

Staying Sane

Making money is great, but how on earth do you stay sane during times like these?

While playing videogames all day is a-ok, even that will become boring after a while, and so a great way to keep yourself mentally on track is…

  • Structure – Try to wake up at the same time each day and not sleep in too much, keep your meal times pretty structured as well, as well as your bedtime.
  • Some type of exercise – Walking around the block or to a neighborhood park, a beach or a non-crowded hiking trail (whatever is available!)
  • Get some sun every day! ☀️ Great mood booster!
  • Get creative. Do something with your hands (crochet, macrame, bead work, drawing, painting, calligraphy, pottery, gardening) The options are endless.
  • Set small goals to achieve each day – This will give your brain and body added dopamine boosts throughout the day!
  • Keep in touch with people who you care about and who care about you. It can be anyone, and doesn’t have to be family, if they’re not supportive or are negative.
  • “This too shall pass”. Give yourself positive affirmations that you will get through this.

⋆ How to Get Started on OnlyFans: Make $4,000+ a Month!

OnlyFans review camgirl

OnlyFans is becoming a VERY lucrative way of making passive income for camgirls without ever having to do live camming! Girls are reporting that they are making $1,000+ a week simply by uploading pics, streaming videos, and messaging their fans. It’s like a Snapchat and a fanclub platform in one! How much you can make on OnlyFans depends on how many members sign up to your account and pay your monthly subscription price.

As an example: To get to the Top 1% earners on OnlyFans you need approximately 725 fans with a subscription price of $9.99!

So, how do you start? It’s easy and almost instant! Just follow the steps below:

1. CREATE YOUR ONLYFANS ACCOUNT

It’s 100% free to create an account and it can be done in minutes! OnlyFans doesn’t require you to sign any contract and you will receive 80% of all the money that your subscribers pay for your content! That is an incredible earning percentage! OnlyFans provides a very high quality platform that is constantly improving and adding new functions to make you earn even more. Combined with great customer service and a straightforward user interface, it’s an unbeatable way to make semi-passive income as a camgirl!

2. SETTING YOUR SUBSCRIPTION RATE

What makes OnlyFans so lucrative is the combination of your subscriber numbers and your subscription rate. You decide what you want to charge members to see your content. It can range from Free to $49.99/month. Imagine how much you can earn with having your subscription on the high end of the range! However, most girls charge about $9.99/month and it seems most customers/fans prefer prices in this range. You have to be realistic about it and make the membership price affordable. You can still make a lot of money for setting a ‘low’ subscription price amount and therefore attracting many more subscribers.

3. PROMOTE YOUR ONLYFANS PROFILE

Now that you have your account, it’s time to figure out what to post on it and how to promote it! Posting is easy – sexy pics and videos that you post *consistently* that also seem personal is what will make your members stick around and maybe even tip you extra!

The most effective way to promote your OnlyFans account is on your existing social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, etc) as well as on a personal blog, if you have one. You can also promote it on cam, but be careful, some sites do not allow outside promotion. The more your promote – the more subscribers you’ll get, and will be well on your way to earning a 4-figure income each month. Many camgirls have even quit live camming in favor of OnlyFans because of how much easier it is to make money!

4. RETAINING YOUR FANS & MAKING EVEN MORE MONEY

Ultimately, fans want your content, so give your fans what they want! Personal messages are key, in my opinion, because they create feelings of intimacy. You can send out free or locked messages (PPV messages) that members would pay for. Being consistent in your posting (say, a few times a day) in addition to creating a varied mix of content (eg. different photosets, videos, polls, personal posts) will keep members engaged and wanting more. Here is a post with some specific tips on how to succeed on OnlyFans! You can even succeed as a non-nude model if you have a big enough fan base built up.

5. ONLYFANS AFFILIATE PROGRAM

Don’t forget to make use of OnlyFans’ generous Referral Program. Once you create an account, you will be given you unique referral link that you can use to recruit other models to join. Once they sign up and start earning you will make 5% of their total earnings for LIFE!  That’s a pretty sweet deal and is 100% passive.

OnlyFans top earners

Yes, earnings like this are possible! (But rare! This camgirl is in the Top 0.59% of all creators)

The earning potential on OnlyFans is huge and has no limit. The only limit is the number of subscribers you have and what they will pay for your content. So, make yourself stand out and get started!

Dealing with Loneliness, Isolation, and Secrecy as a Camgirl

camming secrets

Camming is not all fun and games (or adoration and gifts). It’s fraught with serious mental health challenges like loneliness, isolation, and secrecy. As a camgirl, you not only face challenges of working for yourself, but also having to deal with the societal stigma regarding sex work, and keeping it a secret from even your closest friends and family members. It’s really no wonder that a lot of girls burn out within a few years and go back to “vanilla” work (aka “normal”, socially-acceptable jobs). My estimate is that a camming career last on average anywhere from 3 to 5 years.

Within that time, you can develop and exacerbate all sorts of mental disorders due to pure social isolation that can come with camming. Anxiety, social anxiety, depression can unfortunately become very present when all you do is interact online instead of the “real world”. When your time is spent on cam and your mind is constantly occupied with ideas of what to do during your next cam shift, you start to separate yourself from your previous life, the things you used to do and the people you used to be around.

Living every day with a lie and being secretive about what you do all day can wreak havoc on your mental state. It can lead to burnout, substance use and abuse and send you down a dark hole.

So, what can you do to combat this, assuming the benefits you get out of camming outweigh the negatives?

First, try to not completely isolate yourself from your old friends and activities

Isolation and ensuing loneliness only alienates you further and locks you into your self-imposed box. It’s a good idea to keep seeing your old friends and not changing up your life too fast too soon. If you were going to an exercise class or another activity, continue with it, so that you don’t feel like you’re completely cut off from the world, spending your days in your camroom. You need to keep some normalcy in your life, so that your mental health doesn’t suffer. Plus, exercise is great for balancing and improving your mood!

Create a daily schedule that includes time with others and self-care

Having consistency in your daily life will help you feel confident and in control. Make sure you are not going on streaming binges/camathons and then spending days to recover. Having a set time for your camming shifts, as well as time to yourself (self-care is SO important when you’re a camgirl!), plus spending time with others will ensure you have a more well-rounded life. Moderation is key, even though it will be tempting to devote all your time and energy to camming when the earnings start to pick up. Remember, that while you do socialize on cam, you also need proper, face-to-face positive and friendly interactions. Don’t underestimate its impact it plays on your psyche.

Share your secret with someone you can trust

Keeping this double life going is hard. It weighs on you and can create a lot of pain and suffering. You might not even feel it at first, since you may be excited and exhilarated by what it’s like to make more money than you ever thought possible! However, at some point the excitement will wane, and you might be left with some unresolved issues about your job, your self-worth and this massive secret that you have to keep from others. Some girls may be lucky and be able to disclose their job to their parents, but most will keep it secret. In this case, it’s a really good idea to find a counselor you can trust, so you can work through some of the emotional issues. Journalling might help too, or finding a good friend to confide in. The point of this is to not keep your emotions hidden, and to express them in a healthy way.

Camming is hard, and you have to look out for yourself, because no one will do it for you. Take a look at my Camgirl Self-Care post for some more tips!

Jealousy in the Camming World – How to Overcome It

jealousy camgirl

When your job requires you to be in competition for members’ attention with thousands of other girls, any feelings of jealousy that might come up are absolutely normal. Seeing other camgirls showered with tokens and gifts when you’re having a bad night is the last thing any one of us wants to experience. Yet, it’s the reality of camming, and you need to change your thinking around to be able to have a long and successful camming career.

Here Are Some Ways to Overcome It:

Rule #1: Do not watch other girls, and limit your social media viewing

It’s common to go online and watch other girls’ stream either out of boredom or to see what the other girls are doing and how well their night is going. While it’s perfectly okay to do in moderation (it can be great entertainment and you can even tip the girls if you’re feeling generous), it does seem to cause a lot of insecurity and feelings of jealousy, because you can see with your own eyes when a girl is getting a ton of tokens and attention. You then start the comparison and insecurity cycle, where you begin to doubt yourself and your abilities and even be afraid of logging on, because you don’t feel like you can measure up. The same thing can happen with social media – seeing perfectly chosen and Facetuned selfies and screenshots of massive tips on other girls’ profiles can only generate negativity, especially if you’re already getting down on yourself and feeling like you’re not good enough, or that you’ll *never* be successful enough.

Remember: Comparison is the thief of joy. Watching other girls and seeing how well they’re supposedly doing on cam (you don’t know what goes on behind the scenes) does not benefit you in any way, and only causes insecurity, wastes time, and takes your attention away from YOU.

Rule #2: Don’t get possessive over members – You don’t own them

Say that you do get into the habit of watching other camgirls, either before or after your shift. What may unfortunately happen is that you notice one of your tippers hanging out in another girl’s room and… tipping her, maybe even more than he normally tips you. This is a bit of a horror scenario for any camgirl. Feelings of jealousy are likely to come out and you can became pretty enraged. One thing to remember is that members are not tied to you and are allowed to tip anyone they want and be online at times you’re not. If you were to follow Rule 1, you would never have to experience this very unpleasant situation.

However, if you happen to, take a few breaths, realize that the person on the other side of the screen has his own life and makes his own decisions independently about who to tip, and you being upset or angry at him won’t help in any way. In fact, it may alienate the very member that you want to keep. So, staying offline when you’re not streaming is a very good solution in preventing a lot of jealousy and unnecessary anger.

Rule #3: Figure out coping skills for when you’re feeling jealous and insecure

We are not perfect and the temptation to check up on other girls or your high tippers may be too strong sometimes to resist. So, when you do see a girl doing well or talking to your high tipper, here are some of the things you can do to make yourself feel better and less emotionally reactive. A great strategy is to just walk away and switch your thoughts toward something else, like going for a walk, cleaning your camroom, doing your nails, cooking dinner, etc. Just about anything (as long as it’s healthy) would be a great way to modify your thoughts and get away from the situation that may be causing you pain.

If that doesn’t work, try working through your feelings to really get to the bottom of why you’re reacting this way or this strongly. You can journal or talk to someone supportive about it. If you feel like your feelings of insecurity and jealousy are taking over your life and thoughts, it may also be time to speak to a therapist who will be able to help. There are also many ways to help yourself with consistent and self-compassionate self-care (See my post about it here). Camming is tough and can really play a number on your self-esteem if you’re not careful enough, so take time to take care of yourself! 💖
