Cammingis not an easy job – we all know this. Having to deal with beggars, scammers, and all-around awful people while still being entertaining and enticing to the people who do support you on cam is no easy task. Camming falls under the umbrella of helping jobs, where you expand a lot of your emotional energy toward your “clients” and often do not get much back. Therefore, burnout is so common in the camming field. You’ll see girls taking multiple days off from cam, and months even, because they’ve overextended themselves for the sake of their viewers and have neglected to take good care of themselves physically, emotionally, and mentally.
So, what does it take to successfully manage burnout while still maintaining a consistent cam presence and earning enough money?
You need to have realistic expectations of yourself and set firm boundaries about what you will and won’t do, how often you’ll be on cam, and how available you’ll be OFF cam. I find that the off-cam presence is often the hardest one to be firm on, because you might feel that if you don’t give your members enough attention between camming sessions, they will forget about you and move on. While it may be true for some members, most will be understanding of you needing your private time outside of cam to recharge and do your own things instead of constantly doing Twitter status updates and tweeting sexy pics. The members who WON’T be ok are ones who will always expect too much from you and push your boundaries. You need to have a solid understanding of how much connection outside of cam is ok for YOU and to stick with it. Boundaries are so crucial to have, and I guarantee that you will have a greater peace of mind when your personal boundaries are not crossed by members.
How do you let them know what they are? You can either be direct and say that you will not be on Twitter much in the off-cam hours, or that you will take weekends off from social media completely, or that you won’t answer DMs. An indirect way of doing the same is simply doing it and waiting for members to catch on and not making exceptions. Firm personal boundaries equal a healthy state of mind. 💖
You may think of self-care as taking bubble baths, getting your nails done, or getting a massage, and while those are all true, self-care may come in very different forms.
Self-care might be you taking a nice walk around town or a park. It might be disconnecting from social media and phone for a day and experiencing a day without interruptions. It’s giving your body some rest, not just physically, but emotionally and mentally too. It might be calling or texting a friend you haven’t talked to in a while because of your camming schedule, or even just reading a book. It might look different for everyone, but at the core of it is putting your needs first and caring for your own well-being.
You can think of taking care of yourself as investing in your camming career. The better your self-care and the firmer your boundaries, the more you can achieve without getting exhausted, spreading yourself too thin and eventually burning out. Burnout is not pretty, and unfortunately, it’s way too common in camming. It’s hard to get yourself back on cam after a burnout, because you may feel resentful, unmotivated and unwilling to put yourself back in the place that caused it. The best way out of this situation is to try to not get into it in the first place.
Start by figuring out how to take care of your basic physical needs, like prioritizing your sleep, having a stricter cam schedule (no camathons or camming too late at night), eating well and avoiding junk food and emotional eating. I know it may seem really appealing to order in after a long camming session, but doing that too often will drain your energy and lead to eventual weight gain. Make sure you go to the doctor for regular checkups and take whatever vitamins/supplements that make you feel better. (Try collagen for healthier skin, hair, and nails, and melatonin for better sleep). Exercise is a key component of self-care, whether it’s going to the gym, taking classes or just going on daily walks.
Emotional self-care involves doing things that make you feel good and keeping your mood stable. The instability of camming earnings and the up and down nature of the cam industry does not bode well for emotional stability. Adding the “camming high” after a good night on cam to the list is a recipe for an emotional disaster. Some ways to counteract this is to take time to yourself to relax and reflect on the day and perhaps meditate, journal, or spend time on a relaxing hobby. You can vent to your fellow camgirls or a supportive friend if you’ve had a bad day on cam. If you’re noticing that you’re feeling bad consistently, it may be a good idea to see a counselor, which can improve your mood immensely. Watch out for self-medication with drugs or alcohol. While they may bring relief in the short-term, they won’t be good for you at all in the long term.
Mental self-care can cover things like doing activities outside of camming that bring you happiness and feeling mentally stimulated. Let’s face it, camming is not exactly the most mentally-stimulating job out there, so you need to take care of that aspect outside of cam. Hanging out with friends, reading interesting books, maybe taking a class or even going back to school all encompass your mental well-being. It’s about knowing that there’s something outside of the camming bubble that can be mentally engaging and be something to strive for.
The combination of strong personal boundaries and consistent self-care will do wonders for you and prevent a potential burnout. You’ll be able to enjoy camming more and not lose yourself in it. If you have any more personal tips, share them below!
Considering that cam sites are bursting at the seams with girls in various stages of undress, can you make money without taking your clothes off? You might think it is impossible, however, there are some girls who have created a VERY lucrative lifestyle by being non-nude on cam.
Which site is most geared toward non-nude models?
The answer to that question is simple – It’s Myfreecams. Due to its relaxed atmosphere and relative lack of rules, girls are free to do whatever they want in public and private chats. There is a certain sense of community on MFC, which makes members more likely to want to know a girl better, talk, and have her as a friend. So, taking clothes off and doing an explicit show becomes less of a priority to some, especially when they see that they can make money through entertaining chats, signing, games, or other “performance art”.
How do I become a non-nude cam model?
See my post here on how to transition to one and what sorts of things you need to keep in mind.
Can I make AS much money as a nude model would?
Yes. But it all depends on your creativity and self-awareness. Can you keep members’ interest? Do you know what sorts of things make you stand out? What are your skills/hobbies/unique interests?
To get some inspiration, check out these three VERY successful non-nude girls below!
Most Successful Non-Nude Cam Model on MFC are:
Kickazrelies on her artistic skills to entertain. Body painting is her forte and let’s not forget her insane work ethic! She is often found at the top of Miss MFC lists month after month.
Olivia was the one who started it all. She hardly ever spoke, and instead did performance art shows that created intrigue and some drama, too. She is considered by many as one of the original camgirls who paved the way for non-nude models on MFC. She no longer cams, but her profile is still up, so you never know when she might make her return!
MJ, currently going by MissChristmas, made her name as a poker-playing camgirl and built a huge following that supports her and plays poker and various other games with her weekly, without her doing any remotely sexual shows. So, you can see that having some unique skill or interest is what it takes to succeed!
Passive income (Income resulting from cash flow received on a regular basis requiring minimal to no effort to maintain it) is something that many dream of. By contrast, “active” income takes consistent work, so live camming earnings is one example of active income. Being self-employed and making your own hours does afford you a lot of freedom to spend that time however you wish, so it’s best to spend it on things that will make you money long after the job is done. Clip-making/selling photos and videos and creating blogs require some upfront investment (your time), but then they can make you money indefinitely, literally in your sleep! If you want to expand your income opportunities and not have to rely 100% on your camming earnings, read on!

Selling Your Photos and Videos
Arguably the BEST way to make passive income as a camgirl is to shoot videos and photos to later resell them on sites like ManyVids. You can also sell the same videos on Chaturbate or MFC for tokens or even create your personal site to make them available to even more people. The best thing is that you don’t need much equipment to get started. A webcam or a simple camcorder will work for videos and you can buy a basic DSLR camera to shoot professional-looking photos. Check out my post on how to get started making videos!
Posting Pics and Videos on OnlyFans
While it’s not completely passive, OnlyFans(Snapchat clone that requires members to pay to receive your pics and videos) is a great platform to very easily make money and do so without the hassle of trying to get members to pay for Snapchat and making sure they renew on time. It also allows members to send you tips and that’s where the passive component comes in. It’s great waking up to a tip or two. 😉 Read my OnlyFans review here.
Camming Affiliate Programs
Last, but definitely not least, is making commissions from camming affiliates. It’s an underrated way to make great money, but if you do it right, it will create absolutely passive, long-term income without you having to lift a finger. The key is to figure out where you will be posting the affiliate links and promoting the site. You can so this by creating a camming-related blog (Read my post about it here) or promoting online on platforms like Twitter, Reddit, or other forums. Get creative! Make sure you’re following their terms and conditions, however, since you can be easily banned for posting adult-related content.
The first thing to do is to sign up to the various camming programs that you want to promote as a Webmaster/Affiliate.
The best-performing programs are those that pay you via “Revenue Sharing”, so they pay you commission on the portion of the revenue that you bring in through your link. Chaturbate and MFC have the highest RevShare commissions (20%!) and are the easiest to get started on, in my opinion. Click on the links to sign up:
You may have seen these webcams in cam land that will pan and zoom around the girl’s body with a remote. The remote control effect is striking and is really fun for the viewers. It really makes the members take notice and stick around for much longer than they would’ve otherwise! While most camgirls use “standard” webcams (Take a look at the top ones here), if you want to take your cam game to the next level and invest in your camming success, these so-called “conference cams” are worth checking out. They’re pricey, but they should be seen as an investment, as you WILL see increased interest and therefore tips after upgrading to them. Additionally, you should always be writing off your camming equipment on taxes, whether it be webcams or laptops, so it’s a win-win situation! Read all about the tax deduction rules here.
