Benefits of Camming

🤑

Money – This one is easy, and it immediately comes to mind when you think of camming. The money can definitely be GREAT. So great in fact, that you can be out-earning the doctors and lawyers in your city (Check out my post about the highest tips on Myfreecams here). While it’s hard to say how much exactly you will earn, this post has some good approximations.

Freedom (of time, setting your own hours, not having a boss) – This is one of the biggest advantages of camming. You can quit your day job, say goodbye to your boss and not work a minute more for someone else. It is certainly alluring, especially if you’re making more money in a few days than you used to make all month at your old job, and with it comes a sense of empowerment. It’s a beautiful feeling knowing that you’re earned this type of money yourself and that you have the flexibility to work when you wish.

Sexual Expression – For some, this is one of the most beneficial aspects of camming: Being able to explore and express your sexuality in a way that’s very safe AND that earns you money is very alluring and liberating. You can do what you please and what you’ve always wanted to try out and there is no stigma – quite the opposite, usually!

💸Gifts and Attention – Being a camgirl with multiple fans definitely has its perks. At a “vanilla job” (aka the regular, 9-5 job), there is no way you’d be getting lavish gifts, extra money, gift cards sent to you, but all of that is standard in camming. It’s really thrilling to get your first “just because” tip or a gift card to get those clothes or shoes you wanted. Sometimes it feels like all you have to do is ask, and one of your members will be right there to buy it for you.

Work options that are not available to you otherwise, be it due to a disability or life circumstances. The great thing about being a camgirl is that you can work as much or as little as you want/can, and no one will tell you how to do your job. If you can’t handle a full-time job – camming is perfect. If you have mental health issues (common in the industry), physical issues or a disability, camming creates a way for you to work fewer hours and still make great wage, and most importantly, to do it on your own terms.

Ability to create the life that you want. To sum up, being such a non-traditional job, camming can create so many opportunities for having the life you truly want. You can make a ton of money in your 20s, invest wisely, and then follow your dreams, be it starting your business, owning a farm, or just being a stay-at-home mom. It’s possible with camming due to its massive earning potential.

Downsides of Camming

Very short career timeline/Limiting your future options – Sure, you can be earning the big bucks if you’re lucky, but what happens once you start aging, or your life priorities change? Unfortunately, I believe that a lot of cam models will be stuck in this situation, with a big blank in their resume and no way of getting a well-paying job beyond adult work. It definitely can limit your options in the future, if you decide to leave the industry.

No benefits or paid time off – Say what you will about having a corporate job, but at least it does (usually) provide you with some medical/dental benefits, and a paid time off for any emergencies or just mental health days, in addition to vacation time. As a camgirl, you don’t have that luxury, so you need to plan your vacation around camming, and get used to not getting paid whenever you get sick and can’t be online. You are also on your own when it comes to taking care of your medical expenses.

Stigma – The adult work’s stigma, though lessening, is not going away. Most camgirls have to lie to their family and friends about where they work, and that can be a big emotional burden to carry.

Isolation – Isolation and lack of healthy social interaction is a very real problem for camgirl, because you get so wrapped up in the “Cam World” that you can kind of lose yourself. I made a post about the loneliness and isolation that comes with camming here.

Scams and Harassment – Unfortunately, scams, harassment, and even stalking in some cases, are common in the camming industry. It’s very likely that you’ll encounter some of them as a cam model. It does come with the territory, as there are members who think it’s okay to harass, intimidate, or even try to blackmail camgirls. It’s pretty disgusting behavior, and there is little you can do while it’s happening, but you CAN protect yourself ahead of time – read my post about it here.

So, despite all the negative elements, many camgirls LOVE their job and feel that it’s the best thing that has ever happened to them. I tend to agree – if you can be smart about minimizing your risks, and being realistic about your earning potential – you can absolutely have a great career in camming and enjoy its benefits for years to come.

⋆ How Much Money Do Camgirls Really Make?

how much do camgirls make

How much money can you make as a camgirl? This is the most frequently asked question by aspiring webcam models and cam members alike. The answer, of course, varies greatly with which cam site you chose to stream on, how much time you devote to camming, how consistent you are, and your ability to come up with interesting and enticing things to do on cam.

It might be easy to get caught up in the fantasy that becoming a camgirl will make you rich. Just look at the lists of highest tips on both Myfreecams and Chaturbate! However, the reality is a little more complex than that. Yes, it IS possible to make good money being a camgirl simply by streaming a few times a week and maybe selling your videos, however, some girls will still make next to zero being online for hours and some will make bank just by sitting in front of their webcam and chatting to members. What makes some camgirls succeed and others fail will be covered in a later post, but for now I want to share the approximate earning potential of a camgirl.

As I mentioned, it is quite difficult to average out camming earnings, because of a slew of factors influencing it, but for a camgirl who is semi-established and has the basics down (like a good webcam, lights, and a reliable laptop), she can expect to make…

Around $50 an hour. Some days you’ll make $100/hr or more, some days will be a total bust and you’ll end up with just a few bucks in an hour spent on cam. This figure is mostly based on camming on MFC, but Chaturbate closely follows it. On CB, the higher tips are less common, but tips in general are more consistent, versus MFC where tips can be very up and down, but high tips are common, especially if you have a loyal following. This figure considers that you do private shows in addition to public chat, which can be very lucrative. If you’re camming on other sites like Camsoda, for example, your earnings will vary, since it’s still an up-and-coming site and not the most established yet. I do see a lot of potential in it, so check out my post on how to get started.

how much money webcam models earn

So, with $50/hr you’re earning a good income, but how much you are able to earn a week or a month depends on your camming consistency and how many hours you are willing to put in each shift. Don’t think it is easy to do an 8-hour work day on cam like you would at a regular job. You might be able to pull it off once in a while, but it’s tough physically and mentally. A more “standard” shift is a few hours long, perhaps 3 or 4 hours. So, going by the hourly wage calculation, you can expect to make around $150-200 a day. Working every day is also not the easiest thing to do, and many girls take multiple days off during the week to relax and do offline things.

If you’re consistent with your camming and don’t burn out (Read my post about camming burnout), you can make approximately $1,000 a week and therefore $4,000 a month. This figure is, of course, your earnings before taxes and you will need to save about 15-30% of your income, so that you’re not stuck with a huge bill come tax time. Read about the deductions you can make as a camgirl here. I will also discuss the investment strategies and ways to save and grow your money in a future post.

So, there you have it. The mystique is gone. You can can compare what you can potentially make with camming versus other jobs. Don’t forget that unlike a “normal” job, webcamming unfortunately still carries a lot of stigma and you have to deal with a variety of safety issues that are not present in office jobs. You also have a limited career span, and so you really need to consider your options and what your *future* options may be once you leave/retire from camming.

Camming can be an incredible job and it is what you make it. There are many girls who become incredibly successful, because they develop a loyal member base and continuously reinvent themselves to keep things interesting. Some make well into the six figures annually, but they’re more the exception to the rule and you may find yourself disappointed if you’re counting on making as much, especially in the beginning.

To get started, read my Beginners Guide, and if you’re already a camgirl, check out some of the best cam sites to work on.

Cam Sites That Do Check Payouts

camming payment processors

Why Check Payouts?

One of the frustrating parts of camming is dealing with various payment processors like Paxum or ePayments when you simply want to get your money and not be charged any additional fees. They can either be slow to process payments, charge you extra fees, or simply go out of business (it happens more often than you’d think!)

I find that one of the best ways to receive payments is by check, particularly if you’re living outside of the US and cannot do direct bank deposits/transfers (ACH). This way, you get your check in USD and you are able to get the best exchange rate in your local currency at your bank. It may take a bit longer to receive, depending on where you live, but the benefits are well worth it, especially for international camgirls who don’t have many payment options. Below is a list of cam sites that offer payment by check, from best to worst:

☆Chaturbate: Minimum Amount: $50, Cashout Schedule: Daily – Incredible option for when you need the money ASAP!

CamSoda: Minimum Amount: $20, Cashout Schedule: Weekly

Myfreecams: Minimum Amount: $20, Cashout Schedule: Bi-Weekly

BongaCams: Minimum Amount: $50, Cashout Schedule: Weekly

ImLive: Minimum Amount: $50, Cashout Schedule: Bi-Weekly

Stripchat: Minimum Amount: $100, Cashout Schedule: Weekly

LiveJasmin: Minimum Amount: $100, Cashout Schedule: Bi-Weekly

⋆ Chaturbate Affiliate Program Review ($$$): How to Make $1,000+ a Month in Passive Income

chaturbate affiliate review

One EASY way to make extra money that is overlooked by a lot of models is joining Chaturbate’s Affiliate Program, which makes you money on every purchase that a member makes. You receive your custom affiliate link, which you can post on all of your social media and personal sites or blogs, and refer people to CB through it. Below are all the available affiliate programs you can choose from:

Chaturbate Affiliate Program – Revshare, PPL, Webmaster and Model Referral

Revshare – You earn a MASSIVE 20% revenue share on all traffic (i.e. members) you refer. The best thing is that this is a 20% commission FOR LIFE. You will literally earn passive income as long as the member keeps buying tokens. This is by far the most lucrative and generous camming affiliate program that is active right now. You can see my Top 5 Camming Affiliate Programs list here.

Pay-Per-Lead – Another option is a PPL. Chaturbate will pay you $1.00 for each free signup.

Model Referral – Know anyone who wants to join Chaturbate? You will earn $50 for each model you refer that earns $20 or more camming!

Webmaster Referral – This program pays you 5% revshare on referring webmasters. So, anyone who joins though your link to promote CB is considered a webmaster, and you’ll be able to earn 5% of THEIR earnings for life. Pretty incredible deal.

Important thing to note! You don’t have to be a Chaturbate model to join and participate in the program. ANYONE can join and earn money referring traffic to Chaturbate!

Great! You’ve joined, and now what? Once you reach a certain commission threshold, you can cash out via several methods outlined below:

Chaturbate Payout Schedule and Payment Types

Chaturbate pays affiliates twice a month.

  • Check by mail has a minimum payment of $50
  • Paxum has a minimum payment of $100
  • Check by Fedex has a minimum payment of $200

You can link to specific model’s chat room (or even your own if you’re a model!) or let Chaturbate randomly choose a popular room to link to.

Why Join Chaturbate Affiliate Program?

Because of the ease of joining, no complicated requirements to join, and the ease of making money, I rank Chaturbate’s affiliate program as the top one in the adult industry. With time, you can 100% make $1,000 a month and more from it, quite passively too. Because your affiliate links never expire or need updating, you can make money in your sleep by choosing the right place to promote them. As a result, it’s an incredible passive income opportunity for models and members (or even non-members!) alike.

Preventing Camming Burnout: Essential Self-Care Tips for Camgirls

camming burnout

Camming is not an easy job – we all know this. Having to deal with beggars, scammers, and all-around awful people while still being entertaining and enticing to the people who do support you on cam is no easy task. Camming falls under the umbrella of helping jobs, where you expand a lot of your emotional energy toward your “clients” and often do not get much back. Therefore, burnout is so common in the camming field. You’ll see girls taking multiple days off from cam, and months even, because they’ve overextended themselves for the sake of their viewers and have neglected to take good care of themselves physically, emotionally, and mentally.

So, what does it take to successfully manage burnout while still maintaining a consistent cam presence and earning enough money?

BOUNDARIES

You need to have realistic expectations of yourself and set firm boundaries about what you will and won’t do, how often you’ll be on cam, and how available you’ll be OFF cam. I find that the off-cam presence is often the hardest one to be firm on, because you might feel that if you don’t give your members enough attention between camming sessions, they will forget about you and move on. While it may be true for some members, most will be understanding of you needing your private time outside of cam to recharge and do your own things instead of constantly doing Twitter status updates and tweeting sexy pics. The members who WON’T be ok are ones who will always expect too much from you and push your boundaries. You need to have a solid understanding of how much connection outside of cam is ok for YOU and to stick with it. Boundaries are so crucial to have, and I guarantee that you will have a greater peace of mind when your personal boundaries are not crossed by members.

How do you let them know what they are? You can either be direct and say that you will not be on Twitter much in the off-cam hours, or that you will take weekends off from social media completely, or that you won’t answer DMs. An indirect way of doing the same is simply doing it and waiting for members to catch on and not making exceptions. Firm personal boundaries equal a healthy state of mind. 💖

SELF-CARE

camgirl self care

You may think of self-care as taking bubble baths, getting your nails done, or getting a massage, and while those are all true, self-care may come in very different forms.

Self-care might be you taking a nice walk around town or a park. It might be disconnecting from social media and phone for a day and experiencing a day without interruptions. It’s giving your body some rest, not just physically, but emotionally and mentally too. It might be calling or texting a friend you haven’t talked to in a while because of your camming schedule, or even just reading a book. It might look different for everyone, but at the core of it is putting your needs first and caring for your own well-being.

You can think of taking care of yourself as investing in your camming career. The better your self-care and the firmer your boundaries, the more you can achieve without getting exhausted, spreading yourself too thin and eventually burning out. Burnout is not pretty, and unfortunately, it’s way too common in camming. It’s hard to get yourself back on cam after a burnout, because you may feel resentful, unmotivated and unwilling to put yourself back in the place that caused it. The best way out of this situation is to try to not get into it in the first place.

camming burnout

HERE’S HOW 👇

Start by figuring out how to take care of your basic physical needs, like prioritizing your sleep, having a stricter cam schedule (no camathons or camming too late at night), eating well and avoiding junk food and emotional eating. I know it may seem really appealing to order in after a long camming session, but doing that too often will drain your energy and lead to eventual weight gain. Make sure you go to the doctor for regular checkups and take whatever vitamins/supplements that make you feel better. (Try collagen for healthier skin, hair, and nails, and melatonin for better sleep). Exercise is a key component of self-care, whether it’s going to the gym, taking classes or just going on daily walks.

Emotional self-care involves doing things that make you feel good and keeping your mood stable. The instability of camming earnings and the up and down nature of the cam industry does not bode well for emotional stability. Adding the “camming high” after a good night on cam to the list is a recipe for an emotional disaster. Some ways to counteract this is to take time to yourself to relax and reflect on the day and perhaps meditate, journal, or spend time on a relaxing hobby. You can vent to your fellow camgirls or a supportive friend if you’ve had a bad day on cam. If you’re noticing that you’re feeling bad consistently, it may be a good idea to see a counselor, which can improve your mood immensely. Watch out for self-medication with drugs or alcohol. While they may bring relief in the short-term, they won’t be good for you at all in the long term.

Mental self-care can cover things like doing activities outside of camming that bring you happiness and feeling mentally stimulated. Let’s face it, camming is not exactly the most mentally-stimulating job out there, so you need to take care of that aspect outside of cam. Hanging out with friends, reading interesting books, maybe taking a class or even going back to school all encompass your mental well-being. It’s about knowing that there’s something outside of the camming bubble that can be mentally engaging and be something to strive for.

The combination of strong personal boundaries and consistent self-care will do wonders for you and prevent a potential burnout. You’ll be able to enjoy camming more and not lose yourself in it. If you have any more personal tips, share them below!
