How to Generate Passive Income by Selling your Videos and Photos Online

sell cam videos

Offering videos and photo sets to your members is one of the easiest ways to increase your camming income while not having to be online. Some days you’re just not in the mood to be entertaining, so shooting videos or photos is a great way to still feel productive and make that extra cash! Best of all, since you can resell them indefinitely, you’ve just created a passive income stream once your videos or photos are done. Win-win!

Do I need to have professional shooting equipment for my videos to be successful?

No. Anyone can do it. However, you cannot rely on a cheap webcam to shoot your videos and for them to turn out well. It simply won’t create nice quality videos, and you’ll be shooting yourself in the foot (pun intended) having to work with equipment that won’t give you best results. More on that at the end of the post.

Do I need to have any special video editing software for my videos to look good?

Yes and no. While it’s ok to use a free video editing software that you have installed on your laptop, like a Windows Movie Maker, a lot of girls have invested in video editing software to really make their videos stand out and be high quality. Sony Movie Studio and Adobe Premiere are the most popular video editing programs used by both newbies and professional video editors. It takes a little bit to learn, but the results are worth it!

Where can I sell the videos and photos I make?

You can sell them on you model profile and offer them for sale when you’re online. A great way to REALLY maximize your profits is to sell your videos and photosets on camgirl video sites. The #1 site right now to do so on is ManyVids! Even though it’s fairly new, it’s grown to have a huge audience and thousands of girls have created their profiles on there already. The bigger the audience or traffic a site gets, the better the odds are of your videos selling. Manyvids is highly recommended by me. You can also sell panties, Skype shows, and Snapchat and other items in your “store”. You get paid twice a month and earn 60% of the revenue from the sales of your videos, which is a great payout percentage.

Can I sell my videos “full-time”?

Yes! In fact, there are a lot of girls who do just that. How much you make depends on the amount of videos you’re putting out a week, how well they’re shot, and how much promotion you’re doing. It is definitely possible and is a great way to earn an income while not doing live camming. Camming does have its benefits, but it’s not for everyone and some people don’t have the flexibility in their schedule or time for it. ManyVids says that its top earners make between $10,000 and $12,000 a month!

Ok, how do I begin?!

Sign up for a ManyVids account, upload any videos or photos you may already have. If you don’t have any, here’s what you need to start with:

1 ) A High Quality Webcam – Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 (See my post on the Best Webcams to Get)

OR A DSLR camera – Canon EOS Rebel T5 DSLR Digital Camera

4) Some Nice Lingerie and Toys! (Optional)

And that’s all there is to it! Once you’ve got the basic equipment, you can make your video AND make your first sale the very same day (Don’t forget Twitter as your best promotion tool)!

Bree Olson Camming on MFC – How Will it Affect Other Camgirls?

bree olson mfc

Bree Olson, one of the most famous ex-pornstars has decided to pursue camming on Myfreecams in her adult industry retirement. This decision didn’t come without its critics. Bree has been harassed by other models telling her that she’s taking away their tippers and directing traffic toward her room, to the point where Bree had to make a tearful Periscope video explaining that she only wants to help, not hurt the camming community.

What these girls fail to see is that Bree’s influence is a positive thing for MFC overall. A lot of her 1M+ Twitter followers may not have even known about MFC were it not for her, but with Bree tweeting about it, they’re more likely to go check it out and tip not only her, but other girls. Having more tippers on the site is a good thing for everyone involved, but it is understandable that there will be jealousy among other girls.

So far, Bree is doing very well on the site, and she climbed to #18 on the Miss MFC charts halfway through the month. It will be interesting to see how high she can finish this month! Go, Bree!

Best Makeup for Camming

camming makeup tips

Looking your best translates to feeling your best on cam, and your viewers will pick up on your confident vibe resulting in more tips! Yes, sometimes the ‘I just rolled out of bed’ look works, but for a lot of us, we need some help by way of makeup!

Bright lights and moving around for hours can wreak havoc on your makeup making it literally slide off the face. You need something long-lasting ad with a fuller coverage, as you’ll notice that lights can wash you out making you look dull and not as fresh. Here are the camgirl tried-and-tested makeup products for looking your best on cam.

PRIMER

To make your makeup stay put all day, the first step is to use a primer. It really does give you a great base for the rest of your makeup. Some fantastic primers are silicone-based that feel like heaven on your skin, and there are others that are more mattifying or, on the other hand, give more moisture and glow. I would suggest going for a natural to mattifying effect, because you don’t want to look like a shining ball of light on cam. I recommend the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer and the MAKE UP FOR EVER Step 1 Skin Equalizer Mattifying Primer.

FOUNDATION

Your foundation choice will depend on how much coverage you need. For those of us not born with perfect skin, going for a medium to full coverage is recommended, so that you look truly flawless on cam. My absolute go-to foundation is the MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation. It has buildable coverage that will cover all your flaws, from acne to scars, because it is specifically formulated to look best on HD television and in front of cameras and I can attest to the fact that it looks the most natural out of all foundations I’ve tried.

If you need fuller coverage because of hard-to-cover marks or acne, the best foundation to conceal it ALL is the Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation. It is truly heavy duty and can cover up tattoos with no problem and will give you a perfectly even look on cam! While I think it can look too ‘flat’ and too full coverage for everyday life, on cam it will look just fine.

If you don’t have any skin problems, you can get away with pretty much any foundation as long as it’s not too dewy or shimmery, as that effect can get magnified on cam and make your face look oily.

CONCEALER

Once you’ve got your base, it’s time to conceal any imperfections like dark undereye circles or pimples. I recommend going for a heavy duty concealer, one that will stay on your face and not disappear or start to crease within a few hours. I recommend the MAKE UP FOR EVER Full Cover Concealer, and as its name suggests, it will cover *everything* and you won’t have to worry about any flaws being visible on cam. You can also use it on your body to cover up any scarring, bruising or pimples (sometimes they crop up in the worst places!). Another great choice is the Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer. It stays 100% true to its name and is amazing at covering up any skin issues and looking very natural. You only need the tiniest amount of product to use, as it’s very highly pigmented.

HIGHLIGHTER, BRONZER, and BLUSH

To give your face dimension and get that flawless look, you need to do some contouring – a little highlighter, bronzer and blush will do the trick. Define your cheekbones with a bronzer and give your cheeks, forehead and chin a rosy glow with a blush. I recommend the NARS Laguna/Orgasm Duo, which is two of these products in one and is an iconic classic. Don’t be shy with your blush application, because even though it might look like you’re putting on way too much, it won’t show up as strongly on cam. Sweep some highlighter on your cheekbones, but don’t go too heavy, as the camera will pick up too much of the shine and make you look too shiny versus dewy and natural. I recommend the beautiful Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop for that perfect glow.

EYESHADOWS, EYELINERS, and MASCARA

Go for some bright and eye-catching colors when choosing your eyeshadows to accentuate your eyes and make you look more pretty and fresh overall. Don’t forget an eyeshadow primer to ensure the shadow stays put even after hours of camming. I recommend the Urban Decay Primer Potion, as it really locks in the color and will make your eyeshadow that much more longlasting.

Eyeliner is key to that cat eye look and will make you feel that much sexier. Go for waterproof liquid types versus pencils, like the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner, and finish off with a black mascara to really visually open up your eyes. I love the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara.

EYEBROWS AND FALSE LASHES

Eyebrows, while not that important to be meticulously done, do give you a much more polished look and bring out your eyes. Go for the classic Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade and lock it in place with the Benefit Gimme Brow Gel. One optional, but striking, finishing touch is to put on some false eyelashes. If you don’t have long black lashes naturally, you can fix it with some falsies that will give incredible length and volume to your lashes and make you look gorgeous. They’re reusable and not too pricey!

LIPSTICKS

Liquid lipsticks rule for camming due to their long lasting nature. Drinking, eating, or.. ahem.. doing a bj show won’t leave marks or flake off. My all-time favorites are the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick and the Lime Crime Velvetines. They all come in some beautiful shades, ranging from nude, mauve, to red, that looks fantastic and sexy on anyone’s lips.

POWDER AND FINISHING SPRAY

Dusting on some powder is the final step in the makeup application and is so crucial for camming, as it will lock all your makeup in place, reduce shine and make it last so much longer than it would otherwise. I notice that you appear more oily on camera than in real life, so the webcam picks up on any sheen you have on your face and looking oily is not a good look. I recommend the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder. To make your makeup completely bulletproof, Urban Decay has just the tool, the All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray. Spray it on and your makeup will last through your longest cam session, even a camathon!

⋆ Camming Tips: Dos and Don’ts & Mistakes to Avoid

camming advice tips

Camming is not as easy of a job as some people think (in fact, some people don’t consider camming a job at all!) and we all make mistakes as beginner camgirls. Here are some tips to keep in mind when you’re starting off as a cam model.

DO

  • Sign up with a camsite that you feel most comfortable on. Try out a few get a feel for them and don’t feel like you have to continue if you’re not feeling it. Here’s a good list of cam sites to check out.
  • Wear clothes that you feel comfortable in when camming. Don’t try to be a sexpot/pornstar when you are much more low-key and less sexual in real life. Members appreciate the authentic you! If you feel best in a t-shirt and shorts, rock them and it’ll show!
  • Smile! It’s such a simple thing, but makes a huge difference on how you’re seen. I guarantee that a smile will bring in many more tippers and money rather than sitting in front of a camera with an indifferent expression.
  • Make a plan for what you want to do during your shift. This is especially important if you’re just a beginner. One mistake many girls make is being unprepared on cam. If you go into it not knowing what your countdowns are going to be or what things you will offer (photosets, videos, high tip prizes), you will feel disorganized, lost and your shift will not be as effective. Always be prepared!
  • Add some props to make things interesting on cam. Sitting in front of a white wall will get boring. Have a whiteboard where you put your highest tipper amount and name, have a spinwheel that you can write custom prizes on, or just put some tapestries on your wall to make things more visually exciting.
  • Move around as much as you can (and want). Even if you cam sitting down, you can always move in your seat and lean in different ways that is more interesting to look at than someone slouching over a laptop. If you cam mostly standing up, it’s a great idea to dance or touch yourself in a sensual way from time to time. Try to keep guys’ attention on YOU!
  • Bring a water bottle with you to sip on during a shift. It’s surprising how dehydrated you can get with the bright lights shining on you and from talking for hours, so don’t forget to drink enough H2O.

DON’T

  • Use a built-in webcam. Use an external one instead. This is my #1 tip for a better, more successful experience on cam! The video quality will be *greatly* improved, which will translate into more viewers and tippers.
  • Overpromise and underdeliver. This happens a lot when you come up with a ton of games, raffles and contests to entice your members to tip, but get overwhelmed with the amount of work you have to do to deliver on those things. Be it custom photosets or videos, mailed packages or Skypes, all those things take time, so don’t offer things that you may not be able to fulfill in a timely manner.
  • Be afraid to say no. The beauty of camming is that you are in control of what happens to you on cam, so if someone is being annoying/threatening/makes you cross your boundaries, say no to whatever they’re trying to get you to do and block them.
  • Speak badly about other girls on cam. No one likes cattiness (although starting drama between girls can sometimes translate into more tips if your members get sucked into it), and it’s almost inevitable that the other girl will find out. This creates negative feelings that don’t belong on cam. Stay positive!
  • Overdo it with drinking on cam. Yes, it’s a great way to feel more relaxed and sexual, but being blackout drunk on cam is bad news. I feel like we’ve all made this mistake. Guys tip for shots and get you way too drunk, yet you keep going because you see those tokens adding up in your account. If you decide to drink, set a limit for yourself and try to stay within it.

Doing Taxes as a Camgirl – What You Need to Know

camgirl accountant taxes

Tax season is upon us, so camming tax advice is due! What sort of write offs can you have as a cam model? Do you need to file your taxes? Do you need an accountant or can you do it yourself?

I’ll answer these questions here, but keep in mind that I am not a licensed professional and don’t know your particular situation. For any specific advice, I would always suggest asking an accountant.

First off, YES, you need to file taxes for any income you receive the previous year (if it’s over $400 if you’re in the US). Working for a camsite, you are classified as an independent contractor, and they will mail you a 1099 form listing your income. If you are not american, you’ll have to report your income earned yourself without the form.

What happens if I just don’t file taxes?

Well, somewhere down the line IRS will be contacting you asking why you haven’t been making payments and making sure that you do, in which case you will be paying late penalties. Another way to get on IRS’s bad side is overstating your expenses/write offs. If you have way too many or too many inappropriate expenses, it might raise some red flags resulting in an audit.

However, if you record your earnings and don’t go totally crazy with deductions, you will be fine.

I’ve never done taxes before! Should I hire an accountant?!

Possibly, but in a lot of cases an accountant is not needed. I understand that filing taxes for the first time or doing it for the first time as a self-employed person is scary, but tax software is really easy to work with and is created in a way that guides you through it step by step and corrects any potential mistakes. I recommend the TurboTax Home & Business version, which you can get as a PC/Mac download or as a disc.

If you want the peace of mind, I do recommend having an accountant assist you with taxes to ensure you’re covering all your bases and that you save as much money as you can when you file your return. Jeff Lang is a certified public accountant (CPA), specializing in tax preparation for those in the adult industry, so you don’t have to worry about going to an H&R Block and getting an accountant who may not be comfortable with your job or understand your situation. Jeff can also assist with quarterly estimates and business incorporation (S-Corp or LLC), and make the whole experience quick and easy.

If you mention the promo code, CAMTAX10, you will get $10 off your tax preparation fee!

Write Offs for Camming

The beauty of being self-employed is that you can write off a lot of your expenses, but only those that you used directly for camming. That’s why deducting things like lingerie or makeup is a bit of a grey area and different people will tell you different things. To be on the safe side, I would not include expenses like makeup, clothes, lingerie, salon visits, tanning, plastic surgery, or toys UNLESS you can prove that you only used them for camming.

Also, remember to save all your receipts! You will have to show them if you’re ever audited.

So, here are the things you can write off:

    • Part of your rent (You will have to report what percentage of your house is used for “business” and any expenses associated with it will count as deductions)
    • Percentage of your utilities: heat, water, electricity, internet, phone
    • Equipment, such as webcams, lights, camera (that you use specifically for camming), laptop (again, strictly for camming)
    • Other supplies and camroom decorations
    • Travel expenses  (to go to conventions or photoshoots, including gas, flights, hotel room charges, food)
    • Mailing supplies and expenses, if you ever ship any items to customers
    • Other business expenses, like advertising, web design or hosting fees if you have your own website

Remember to save about 20-30% of your paycheck throughout the year to not be hit with a huge tax bill and not having money to pay it. Keeping track of all your expenses throughout the year is also a good idea, so that you’re not scrambling to find things at the last minute.

One more thing, if your tax bill is over $1,000 this year (if you’re in the US), you will be required to pay quarterly estimated taxes the following year, so be aware of that. Check out my post on quarterly estimated tax payments here.

Any questions? Let me know! Good luck!
